Massapequa LIRR Station to Get Facelift

Project cost reported at $40 million

Massapequa LIRR Station Photo: Edward RobinsonThe Massapequa Long Island Rail Road station is going to be renovated at a reported cost of $40 million.

The LIRR will do a major overhaul, replacing the station platforms, stairs, escalators, signs and canopy, according to Newsday, (paid site).  There will also be  a brand new public address system and waiting room.

"The station is due for a face-lift,"LIRR President Helena Williams told the paper. "The outlined improvements here will not only be an investment in the long term, but it will give us benefits now."

The project expected to be completed in 2015.

According to the blog LIRR Today. the work will be done in tow phases, with the first phase concentrating on the western side of the platform as well as the waiting room and elevator. Phase two will involve work on the eastern part of the platform.
