Massapequa Park Board Meets Without Jacobson

It was meeting that featured celebration and sadness.

The Massapequa Park Village Board met for the first time Monday since the death of one of their own.

Harry Jacobson died two weeks ago at the age of 89 after decades of service to the village.

Massapequa Park Mayor James Altadonna led the board in a moment of silence at the start of the meeting.

"He gave everything he had for this village," Altadonna said. "He gave his services to the Lions club and youth organizations. To so many people he was so generous and this board is really going to miss him."

The Board then honored two girls soccer teams in Long Island Junior Soccer. The Girls U11 team nicknamed the Cosmos and the U14 team, known as the Crush each won state titles this year.

Altadonna paid tribute to those who put them in a position to succeed.

"You don't know how lucky you are to have parents take the time and expense that it takes to become state champions," he told the teams.

The Board then opened the regular meeting. They voted to repeal village ordinances related to brush grass and weeds because it's being replaced by the law passed at the last meeting allowing them to go after homeowners that don't maintain their property.

They also voted to approve a cabaret license for R Bar.

After the meeting Altadonna said that he was in no hurry to replace Jacobson and likely wouldn't nominate anyone to fill his seat until the end of summer.
