Massapequa Park Mayor Says He's Had No Contact About Town Clerk's job.

James Altadonna addresses rumors at board meeting.

Massapequa Park Mayor James Altadonna says he still hasn’t been contacted officially about being Oyster bay Town Clerk.

Altadonna was rumored in a recent published report to be in line for the position vacated by Steve Labriola in February.

When asked about the report by a village resident at Monday’s Massapequa Park Trustee meeting, Altadonna said he can’t comment.“No one has contacted me,” he said. People are saying there’s rumors out there. I can’t say anything.”

The mayor said this is not the first time he’s heard speculation connecting him to a different office.

“I’ve been, over the years, an assemblyman, I’ve been a county legislator, and, these were all rumors, I’ve been a Councilman,” he said.

Altadonna said he can’t talk about his future plans.

“Until somebody presents something to me that I can intelligent decision on, then I can say, but until that happens, I can’t comment.”

Meanwhile, the business of government continued, as the board formally voted to pass the $5.9 million budget.

That’s down from last year’s $6.1 million spending plan, but there tax levy was set at 10.36 percent, up from last’s year’s amount of 9.890 percent.

The total tax increase was $232,000 with about $150,000 going into reserve funds.  The mayor said  the balance will go into beefing up the village infrastructure  in the wake of Superstorm Sandy.

One thing that’s not included in the budget is a village police force. But Altadonna  said the village is looking into the  possibility of creating one.

The Mayor announced a plan to create a committee to explore the idea.

“We’re not going into this with a set schedule,” Altadonna said. “We’re going into into this not with a set schedule, we’re going to see if it makes sense for us monetarily.

The mayor said it will likely take at least a year before a new force would be created.
