MLK Day What's Open and Closed

Monday, Jan. 16 is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a federal holiday.

Here's a look at what's open and closed in the Massapequas in observance of the holiday.

Government Offices: Most Government offices will be closed including all offices in the .  But all Town parks and Ice skating rinks will be open.

Schools: Massapequa Public Schools will be closed Monday. The varsity wrestling team will compete at Herricks High School in New Hyde Park Monday at 9 a.m.

Sanitation/S.O.R.T. There will be no sanitation or S.O.R.T. recycling pickup Monday. Residents who normally have pickup on Monday will receive it on Tuesday.

Post Office: Most Post Offices will be closed and there will be no mail delivery on Monday.

Library:  Both branches of the Massapequa Public Library will be closed Monday.

LIRR: The Long Island Rail Road will run on a holiday schedule with some extra trains added. The LIRR's Babylon Branch, which serves both and  is adding eight westbound trains: 

• Departing Babylon 5:08 a.m., making all stops to Rockville Centre, then Jamaica, arriving at Penn Station at 6:20 a.m.
• Departing Babylon 5:51 a.m. making all stops to Rockville Centre, then Jamaica, arriving 7:03 a.m.
• Departing  Babylon 6:18 a.m., making all stops to Rockville Centre, then Jamaica, arriving 7:31 a.m.
• Depart Babylon 6:51 a.m., making all stops to Rockville Centre, then Jamaica, arriving 8:03 a.m.
• Departing Babylon 7:19 a.m., making all stops to Rockville Centre, then Jamaica, arriving 8:31 a.m.

• Departing  Babylon 7:38 a.m., making all stops to Rockville Centre, then Jamaica, arriving  8:51 a.m.
• Departing Babylon 7:45 a.m., stopping at Jamaica, arriving 8:51 a.m.
• Departing Babylon 9:15 a.m., making all stops to Rockville Centre, then Jamaica, arriving  10:28 a.m.

The LIRR will also be adding five eastbound trains Monday afternoon:

• Departing Penn Station 2:35 p.m., stopping at Jamaica, then Babylon (arrive 3:35 p.m.)
• Departing  4:59 p.m., stopping at Jamaica, Rockville Centre, then all stops to Babylon (6:13 p.m.)
• Depart NY 5:32 p.m., stopping at Jamaica, Rockville Centre, then all stops to Babylon (6:47 p.m.)
• Depart NY 5:59 p.m., stopping at Jamaica, Rockville Centre, then all stops to Babylon (7:13 p.m.)
• Depart NY 6:32 p.m., stopping at Jamaica, Rockville Centre, then all stops to Babylon (7:47 p.m.)
