Peter King Speaks on Carolyn McCarthy Retirement

Seaford Republican praises longtime colleague.

As news came down that Carolyn McCarthy, D-Mineola, will not seek re-election in to the House of Representatives November, Peter King, her longtime colleague in the Long Island delegation, praised her years of service.

"Carolyn McCarthy was a hard-working, conscientious member of Congress and a good friend," King, R-Seaford, told Patch Wednesday after Marthy, 70, who has been undergoing treatment for lung cancer, announced her retirement. I commend her for her service. I wish her much good luck and I wish her nothing but good health in the future."

King and McCarthy have served together in Congress for more than 17 years, since McCarthy took office in January of 1997.

They belonged to different political parties, but King said they were able to find common ground.

"Despite our political differences we always stood together for what was good for New York and good for Long Island," King said.
