Rip Current Warning for Area Beaches

National Weather Service issues reminder not to swim in unsupervised areas.

The National Weather Service  issued a warning  Sunday urging swimmers to be aware of rip currents at area beaches.

Rip currents can pull you away from shore quickly and officials advise checking with lifeguards before entering the water.

As always, you should never swim in an unsupervised area.

If you get caught in a rip current you should remain calm and swim parallel to the  shore  until you can break free. Then swim at an angle away from the current. If you are unable to swim away, tread water until the current weakens.

A high surf advisory for the area issued Sunday Morning has been canceled.

Officials say tropical conditions which formed Hurricane Danielle are causing the dangerous rip tides.
