Town Officials Commemorate Fallen Police Officers

The Hicksville headquarters of the Fraternal Order of Police hosted a solemn ceremony recently to honor police officers who lost their lives in the line of duty.

In attendance were Michael Califano, father of Michael J. Califano, who was killed when a sleeping driver's flatbed truck crashed into his cruiser during a traffic stop on the Long Island Expressway, and Arlene Howard, mother of George Howard, a Port Authority officer who died in the Sept. 11 World Trade Center attacks.

Local officials on-hand included Nassau County Legislator Michael Venditto, District Court Judge Rhonda Fisher, Town Councilman Anthony D. Macagnone and Supervisor John Venditto.
