Town Quizzes Residents on Pollution

TOBAY gives residents an environmental pop quiz.

The Town of Oyster Bay is giving a pop quiz to all residents on their impact on the environment. The Storm Water Pollution Prevention Survey on the town's website is  asking residents for feedback on their own pollution prevention habits as well as testing them on how well they obey pollution laws.

"The Town of Oyster Bay wishes to learn just how knowledgeable its residents and businesses are regarding the very important issue of storm water pollution and its impact on our environment and quality of life here in Oyster Bay," says the town's website.

Woven between questions asking how important water quality and water cleanliness is to residents are tests on basic principles of keeping streets, storm drains and bodies of water clean in Oyster Bay. Once the anonymous 17-question survey is submitted, the page redirects to an answer key complete with ways to improve environmental impact and programs in TOBAY that can help.

Registration for the 27th annual TOBAY Bluefish Tournament is officially open, according to town officials. The all-day event in early September draws crowds of fishers and onlookers in competing for prizes, tailgating, and of course, fishing.

“The Town’s Bluefish Tournament is a great all-day sporting event with wonderful prizes and great camaraderie,” said TOBAY Councilwoman Beth Faughnan.
