Town to Host College Soccer Festival

TOBAY Notebook: Also, there's still time to read, discuss "Wonder."

The Town of Oyster Bay is hosting a college soccer game between Hofstra and LaFayette and an accompanying youth soccer festival later this month.

The key matchup involves two of the NCAA's premier Northeast college soccer teams on Sunday, Aug. 18, at John J. Burns Town Park in Massapequa. The game is set for 4 p.m.

“Soccer fans in our town will not want to miss this festival which will showcase some of the area’s best soccer talent and will make for an entertaining day for the community to watch and enjoy,” said Councilman Joe Pinto.

Hofstra is led by Head Coach Richard Nuttall, who is entering his 25th season as head coach at Hofstra, which finished 11-6-4 last season and advanced to the Colonial Athletic Association Championship Game.

The Leopards from Lafayette, under the direction of head coach Dennis Bohn, are the defending Patriot Division Champions.

Next for 'One Town, One Book' is town-wide discussion of 'Wonder'

There is still time to get in on a special town-wide program that focuses on a special kid and remarkable book, "Wonder."

A book discussion and lecture, facilitated by Anna Katsavos, Ph. D., Professor Emeritus at SUNY Nassau, Literature and Women’s studies, is set for Aug. 15. at the Syosset-Woodbury Community Park Community Center.

Last week, members of the Patio Players performed a dramatic reading of selections from the book to an audience of about 50 at the Plainview Library.

The next event is a way of wrapping up all the elements, especially if you have strong feelings about the memorable characters in R.J. Palacio's best-selling book. It's a quick read, but a memorable one.

The center is located at 7800 Jericho Turnpike, Woodbury.
