Town Urges Residents to Honor Korean War Vets

Remembering the "Forgotten War," getting emergency texts, and license expirations this week in TOBAY.

TOBAY Supervisor John Venditto is encouraging residents to remember those who fought in the Korean War on Monday.

Many tend to pass over the Korean War as it was never declared by Congress, but rather became a "conflict" or "police action," according to the Town.

"…But to the men and women who were fighting and dying, it was a hard, brutal war in unforgiving terrain, weather that ran from 100 plus degrees in summer to more than 50 degrees below zero in winter, and against an enemy that, for much of the war, outmanned and outgunned UN forces," said town officials.

It is for this reason that Venditto and the Town of Oyster Bay are encouraging residents to take time to reflect on the war, learn about the conflict, and honor those who sacrificed their lives 60 years ago.

TOBAY to Use Emergency Text, Email, Page System

Emergency notices from the Town of Oyster Bay can now be received via email, text, and page thanks to a new 24 hour system recently implemented by the town. Fires, flooding, evacuation, and water and weather emergency messages can now be sent to electronic devices and accounts immediately through Swiftreach Networks, Inc.

“The SWIFT911™ system will be an invaluable life-saving device for getting information out to our community when threats of severe weather or other dangerous conditions occur,” said Venditto.

To sign up for the service, go to the town's website and add your own emergency contact information.
