VIDEO: Mangano Announces Operation Safe Sweets

Implemented in 2004, the program monitors sex offenders to protect trick-or-treaters on Halloween.

Wednesday, Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano was joined by officials from the Nassau County Department of Probation, Nassau County Police Department and Parents for Megan's Law Executive Director Laura Ahearn to announced a Halloween safety initiative called Operation Safe Sweets.

The operation is designed to protect children from sex offenders on Halloween through monitoring and randomly checking on sex offenders as the holiday approaches.
