Village Honors Little League Champs

Four Massapequa Coast teams honored.

Forget about the Yankees, this year's local baseball juggernaut is the Massapequa Coast Little League.

The Village of Massapequa Park recently honored four of the league's teams that won district championships this past season.

Two of the teams, the 11-year-olds and the Juniors team went on to win Long Island titles.

"There's nothing we like better in late September, than to talk about baseball," Mayor James Altadonna said before a meeting last week, where the 11-year-olds and 12-year olds were honored. The 10-year-olds and the Juniors were honored at a prior meeting.

"I can honestly say Coast this year has really shined," the Mayor told the teams at the most recent meeting. "I mean you guys have won all the championships."

League president Craig Garland said he attributed the success this year to the hard work of everyone involved.

"The accomplishments of these teams are really built around  the talents that these kids have, the coaching staff, and the support of the parents, who've really stood by these kids."

Altadonna also praised the coaches and parents.

"These people do it from their hearts, they receive no pay and the sacrifices are tremendous," he told the players.

"In order to reach your potential, the parents chip in, the coaches chip in and the community chips in. As players you should feel special that so many people care about you, that they're willing to make such sacrifices."
