Voters to Decide Town's Land Sale Tuesday
Polls open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. at your usual polling place.
Voters in the Town of Oyster Bay will decide Tuesday whether its government can sell a 53-acre parcel of its land, specifically, the current Department of Public Works property in Syosset, for $32.5 million.
The polls are open at 6 a.m. and close at 9 p.m. Tuesday. Residents are to go to their usual polling places, the same spots they usually cast their ballot.
In voting booths, this is what you'll see:
- "Shall the resolution of the Town Board of the Town of Oyster Bay to sell 53.783 acres of certain surplus real property for the sum of $32,500,000.00 be approved?"
A "No" vote means they can't sell the land. You are saying "no" to the sale of the DPW property. The town still keeps the land but doesn't get the money.
The referendum was forced by a petition drive led by mall giant Taubman, who wants to build a upscale shopping mall on the land next to the DPW site. Simon is Taubman competitor.
