Week in Review: Dec. 31 to Jan. 7

A look at the top stories in Massapequa for the past week.

The first week of 2012 was marked by tragedy in Massapequa and the surrounding area.

Here's a look back:

On New Year's Eve a robbery attempt at a pharmacy in Seaford left two men dead. It was later learned that one of those killed was ATF agent John Capano, 51, of Massapequa.  It was also reported that Capano had been killed by a retired Nassau Police officer.

Capano was married with two children who served with ATF for 23 years. We have special agents," said Eric Immesberger the Special Agent in Charge of the Long Island Field Office of ATF.  "But John was a very special agent."

The slain ATF agent was given a hero's funeral Friday in Seaford. Among those in attendence was U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder.

As a new year got underway, the business of the Town of Oyster Bay started up as well. First up, was a swearing in ceremony for Town Supervisor John Venditto and the newly re-elected council members.

Finally, we learned about a great honor for a Legendary wrestling coach. The wrestling room at has been renamed for Al Bevilacqua, who served as Massapeqa's wrestling coach from 1963-77 and taught in the school district from 1961-94.
