The Village of Massapequa Park has been making plans to erect a cell tower.
The village board voted this week to hold a public hearing in August on a possible purchase of land on the south side of Sunrise Highway west of the .
Massapequa Park Mayor James Altadonna says that the village took action because carrier contracts are expiring on a current tower located on the Massapequa Water District tower. The district is also planning a renovation soon.
Altadonna said the village is looking into buying the land because the village would be left without coverage. He also was concerned that other locations would be too close to residential areas.
We want to know what you think of the proposed location.
Take our poll below and weigh in with your comments.
Would the cost of the project be split among the carrier users and the Village? How much would the carrier pay for leasing space on that pole, compared to past charges? == Will all this information be available at the August meeting, or will the village tell the people the numbers are still being "worked out"?? Let us have the full details before the meeting preferably, or at the meeting. Also, the owners of the adjacent property, what do they say, or is their approval not legally necessary.
Why do you think the Water District does not want Verizon back when the contract expires. Does anyone think its wrong for the village to aquire property to support a commercial cell site, I do. What happened to the current mayors uproar that the previous mayor allowed the flag pole cell site to be built, does anyone remember that??
I was just pointing out the facts of problems have happened with other municipalitys that have leases with Verizon. I stil say it's wrong for the Villige to aquire property for the purpose of leasing to any cell company. Facts are the Water District does not want Verizon back, if they did they would have offered them a spot at May Place to install a COW (cell On Wheels) while the water tower was being renovated.
