Weigh in on Proposed Boater Safety Law

Parents of girl killed in July 4 tragedy asked state legislators for tougher boating law. Do you support the idea?

The proposal is called "Victoria's Law," and it's named after 7-year-old Victoria Gaines who lost her life in the July 4th boat tragedy near Oyster Bay.

Victoria's parents, Paul and Lisa Gaines attended a hearing at Town Hall in Oyster Bay on Wednesday to push for reform to prevent future accidents.

The Gaines family wants the state to enact a law that would require all boaters to take a state safety course before operating a vessel, enact strict weight limits for all boats and ensure that adequate security measures are in place during major public events on state waterways.
