Weigh in on Youth Service Funding Cut

A political battle has led to the County defunding of YES Community Counseling. Which elected official do you blame?

YES Community Counseling and other social service organizations have said they've been caught in the crossfire of a political battle that's cause them to lose funding from Nassau County.

County Executive Ed Mangano wrote the organizations last month threatening to cut off the funding unless the county legislature voted to pay tax refunds the county owes.

In order to do that, Republicans needed at least three votes from Democrats to create the super-majority required to pass the measure.

That didn't happen and the funding was cut off this week.

Democrats say that the funding can come from other sources such as red light cameras, which once funded social services in the couty.

We want to know which elected official uou blame.

Take our poll below and weigh in with your comments.

I agree there is a thing you have to pay to play

This is a wonderful community service to children and families. The childre are the future the cuts should never be taken from the health and safety of the children

Nobody is saying that it is not "a wonderful community service to children" but what percentage of the Nassau County population actually participates? Probably less than 5%. Should the 95% pay for the entertainment of the 5%. Fee based services probably make more sense and saves the taxpayers money.

The fault lies with all of them. Red light funding was taken over re-districting and bonding issues. Both sides engage in a fight over which side can get more spoils and both sides blame the other. They need to remember that they were voted in and they can be voted out. FJDietz, how many of our community end up in jail? You still pay for it. How many in our community don't have kids going to the schools but still pay school taxes? These programs are a benefit to all of our communities. They shouldn't lose out because a bunch of grown ups don't know how to get along.

They are all to blame. Schmit, Abrhams, mangano, and the rest. Stop using Youth Board Funding as a political pawn. Restore the Red Light Camera funding!!!
