You Decide: Consequences of the Tax Cap

The real estate tax cap has been criticized for being confusing and bringing unintended consequences. What do you think?

There has been a lot of news in Massapequa concerning the state real estate tax this week.

Officials at the Massapequa school district say that are facing the possibility of making about $4 million in cuts in large part because of the tax cap.

Meanwhile, the Village of Massapequa Park has voted to opt out of the two percent cap this year.

In both cases, officials have said that there's been confusion over the implications and consequences of the law. Village officials have said that they opted out of the cap to insure that no harm comes to Massapequa Park if their current budget calculations turn out to be incorrect.
