Massapequa Philharmonic Special Youth Concert

ABI FAYETTE will perform Sarasate's Carmen Fantasy and Zapateado with the Massapequa Philharmonic Orchestra in the Auditorium.  The orchestral works will include Beethoven's Leonore Overture No. 3, Strauss' Die Fledermaus Overture  and selections from  Broadway musicals and marches.

VIOLINIST ABI FAYETTE, now 17, began violin at age 3 with the Suzuki method. She was accepted into the Pre-College Division of Juilliard as a scholarship student in 2004, where she now studies with Ann Setzer.  Abi won the Juilliard Pre-College Chamber Orchestra Competition in 2004, when she was 10, and had her Lincoln Center debut. She has performed with the Sound Symphony, and the Bachanalia Orchestra in Merkin Hall, as first prize winner of their concerto competition in 2009. She has been Concertmaster and/or Principal 2nd violin of the Juilliard Pre-College Chamber Orchestra, the Pre-College Symphony and the Full Pre-College Orchestra, and has performed numerous solo and chamber music recitals at Juilliard. In April 2011, Abi performed with the National Women's Choir at Carnegie Hall, and this year Abi attended the All Eastern Festival in Baltimore as a member of the All Eastern Honors Orchestra.

The Massapequa Philharmonic is composed of about 70 local musicians and is one of the largest orchestras on Long Island.  Guest Conductor Howard Cinnamon, received his Bachelor's Degree from City College, his Masters from Queens College and his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan. He is currently Associate Professor and Coordinator of Music Theory at Hofstra University, and was Chair of its Department of Music from 2001-2010. Dr. Cinnamon has been Music Director of the Island Symphony Orchestra since 1992, served as Principal Conductor of the Long Beach Symphony from 1993-96, and was the Music Director of the BAFFA (Bay Area Friends of the Fine Arts) Symphony from 1997-2008.
