Former Massapequa School Superintendent Herbert Pluschau Dies

Longtime administrator and former president of Massapequa High Schools Hall of Fame passed away Monday.

Former Massapequa School Superintendent Herb Pluschau died Monday, school officials said.

Pluschau served the district from 1953 until 1988 and was the first elected president of the Massapequa High School Hall of fame, according to the Hall of fame website.

Pluschau joined the district as a Physical Education teacher and varsity basketball coach at Massapequa High School and also served as a guidance counselor, vice principal, assistant superintendent, deputy superintendent and finally superintendent from 182 until his retirement in 1988.

He was inducted into the Massapequa High Schools Hall of Fame in 1994.

He is survived by his wife Carol, his children, John, Christine Cone, Peter and Lauren Juelke eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.

He will be reposing at the Massapequa Funeral Home South Chapel 480 Merrick Road on Thursday 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. His funeral will be at Grace Episcopal Church at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, with interment to follow at Grace Cemetery in Massapequa.
