While most people consider Monday the first day of school in Massapequa, for thousands of students, it's really just a continuation.
The Massapequa school district is wrapping up its summer program, which were attended by 2,500 students this year, according to district officials.
“These programs are a convenient and economical way for students in our community to explore their interests and develop skills in a fun and enriching environment," Massapequa Superindent Lucille Iconis said.
Iconis said said the district has a partnership with Nassau BOCES, which has reduced costs in associated with the program.
The summer arts program drew 258 students, an increase over last year, as it added acoustic guitar lessons to their program which also includes usical theatre, band, orchestra and jazz band.
More than 1,350 students took part in the Summer Recreation Program which includes arts and crafts, games, sports and trips.
There were also academic classes aimed at building competency, regents review courses and problem solving programs such as LEGO Robotics.
