Massapequa Administrator Wins Statewide Award

Kevin Harrington to be honored in Albany in October.

A Massapequa administrator will be honored by the New York State English Council.

Kevin Harrington, English Language arts curriculum associate for Massapequa Public schools, will receive the NYSEC's Educator of Excellence for Administration award next month in Albany.

Harrington who's been a K-12 curriculum associate with the district since 2009, has seen an increase in mastery of English Regents, and a boost in the number of students taking AP and college level classes  since coming to Massapequa.

He's also helped introduce courses such as Monsters in Print and Film, Graphic Novels and Broadcast Journalism.

Harrington praised his colleagues for making the curriculum work.

“I am in awe and so grateful to the teachers who implement the instructional strategies on a daily basis," "They are my heroes and the ones who deserve to be recognized with this award.  I am blessed to be part of an administrative team that puts such value on literacy instruction, and to work with a central office staff and Board of Education that supports professional development.”
