The Sachem East Field Hockey team capped its remarkable four-game playoff run with a victory over Massapequa to earn its second Long Island Championship title in a row.
The Flaming Arrows pitched yet another shutout, and yet another 3-0 victory in their win over the Nassau County champs at Adelphi University last night. On Monday Sachem East won the Suffolk County title with the exact same score over Bay Shore High School.
“It’s been such an adrenaline rush,” Sachem coach Tina Moon told The Sachem Report. “I’m so proud of these girls. They’ve worked so hard and stayed so focused. Our intensity level was so high. They were so hungry and eager.”
Sachem is now heading north to play Williamsville North in the New York State semifinals on Saturday at Cicero-North Syracuse High School.
Scoring for Sachem East was Kayla McKeveny, Nikki Healy, off an assist from Katie Doherty and Katie Shanahan who netted her fifth goal in this four-game run to make it 3-0.
Goalie Jordan Miller got an early feel for home field, making two saves in the cage at Adelphi, where she will be heading upon graduation.
“I can’t even explain all the emotions I’m feeling right now,” stated Healy. “This is what we’ve been working for, and now we’re going back to states.”
