Massapequa School District Starts New Year with New Faces

The Massapequa School District will have a different look for the 2012-13 school year as three staff members have been promoted and two new faces will fill administrative positions.

The most notable changes will be at Unqua Elementary School where principal Diana Haanraadts has been officially promoted Assistant to the Superintendent for Instructional Support and General Administration. Haanraadts had served as acting Assistant to the Superintendent during the 2011-12 school year.

Deanna Catapano who had been serving as acting principal will stay on as principal. Catapano will have a new assistant principal as the district has hired Ryan Aliperti. 

Aliperti had served as a literacy coach at Always Learning/Eastern Suffolk BOCES, where she conducted literacy workshops. She also taught in the Hauppauge School District.

Meanwhile, Jordan McCaw, an English teacher at Massapequa High School, will become Supervisor of Secondary Special Education. 

Joseph DiTroia , has been named Dean of Students at Berner Middle School after serving as Dean of Discipline at the William Maxwell Career and Technical Education High School in Brooklyn.

 “I congratulate Mrs. Haanraadts, Mrs. Catapano and Mr. McCaw on their new assignments,” said Massapequa Superintendent Charles Sulc. “They are outstanding educators who have demonstrated strong leadership skills and a wonderful commitment to our students, staff and community. I also welcome two excellent additions to our staff, Mr. DiTroia and Ms. Aliperti, and wish them the best of luck in the new school year.”
