Massapequa Schools Closed on Monday

All clases canceled as a result of approaching storm.

All  Massapequa Public Schools will be closed Monday as Hurricane Sandy approaches the area,  officials said Sunday.

The district made the announcement at 2 p.m. saying classes were canceled "due to impending weather.

Officials told the community to continue to monitor the website, but cautioned that updates might come slower as the weather gets worse.

"While we will strive to keep the community apprised of any and all additional updates regarding this storm, please note power outages may hinder our ability to use all our usual alert systems.," officials said in a statement.

"As such, families are encouraged to monitor the district's web site and multiple media outlets tonight and during the day tomorrow for any additional information regarding the Massapequa Schools. "

Public schools in the Plainedge and Farmingdale School District will also be closed as will St. Rose of Lima School.
