Massapequa Superintendent Lucille F. Iconis announced at the latest Board of Education meeting that an agreement had been reached between the district and its principals, directors and curriculum associates to extend their contracts through June 2016.

“It is a salary increase of 2.74 percent over their years,” Iconis said. “I should note that these employees agreed to a salary freeze for the 2012-13 school year.”

A new Treasurer was welcomed into the Massapequa school district Thursday, as Iconis appointed Lisa Beratis to the position after previously filling it as a temporary replacement.

“I’m very pleased to appoint Lisa Beratis as the District Treasurer,” Iconis said. “You may remember that last month, we put an interim in place to give us an opportunity to really look at that department, and we’re very please that Lisa Beratis will continue as our District Treasurer.”

Deputy Alan Adcock also gave a brief presentation on the financial standing of the school district, noting that Massapequa’s borrowing is down. the district currently has a fund balance of over $6 million and stand a good chance to have its credit rating upgraded to AA1 status in the near future.

“These are the signs of a school district in good financial shape,” Adcock said.
