The Board of Education has made it official- as of July 1, Lucille Iconis will be the new Superintendent of the Massapequa public school distirct.
At Thursday's public meeting, the Board uninamiously approved the contract with Iconis to serve as the successor to the retiring Charles Sulc starting as of July 1. The contract runs through June 30, 2016.
In addition, 11 retirees were announced by Sulc, all of whom are ending their tenure with the school district at the end of this current year. Sulc, who also departs this June, thanked these devoted teachers and bade them well on the new chapter of their lives.
"They will be missed," he said. "They've had many, many years of service here...they've served out children well, they've served out community well, and we wish them long, healthy, happy retirements."
The Board also approved an agreement between the school district, the Village of Massapequa Park, and Nassau County for the purpose of establishing and operating a Point of Despensing facility at Berner Middle School.
"Berner will be used as a Point of Distrubution in the event of some natural diaster that we face where medicines have to be distrubuted on a wide-scale basis," said Assistant Superintendent Alan Adcock. "We have had an agreement like this with Massapequa Park and Nassau County previously."
