Sound Off on Common Core Learning Standards

Share your thoughts in Patch's open blog.

A hot topic around Nassau County has been the Common Core Standards, and many locals have taken to social media to voice their frustration.

"What I like least is that my child is only learning for the tests," Felicia Levy Gluck said on Bellmore Patch's Facebook page. "There is so much more for them to learn. History, science, life in general. There, are some awesome teachers out there who love to teach and can make a child love to learn, but they are stifled as well due to tests."

"Every child learns differently," Faith Pryor Failia said on Wantagh-Seaford Patch's Facebook page. "You cannot put them all in one box and expect the same method to show the same result. Way too much time spent on testing instead of learning. There are too many reasons to list.

The concern continued on Levittown Patch's Facebook page as well.

"My biggest concern is my son who has a reading comprehension issue," Kristina Booton Schmuacher said. "They assigned him to read an agatha Christie book. I don't see this turning out well and I can see his confidence level being destroyed. All at the age of 13
