Stranger Scare at Unqua School

Man taken into custody after approaching student.

An Unqua Elementary School student received a scare when a stranger tried to shake his hand while on the way to school, authorities said.

The boy was not hurt during the incident, which happened Tuesday near the intersection of Unqua and Merrick Roads.

He reported the incident to school officials, who then alerted police.

Cops took the man into custody and he was taken to Nassau University Medical Center for psychological evaluation, police from the seventh precinct said.

School officials sent a letter home about the incident, and said staff were reminded to review safety procedures.
