Students Share Mixed Emotions Over Alleged Terrorist Threat

There was a mix of fear and indifference among  students Wednesday, one day after one of their classmates allegedly made terrorist threats.

Police allege Ryan Bernhardt, 17, threatened to blow up the school at a nearby after-school hangout, on Tuesday. 

Mike, a senior at the school, who declined to give his last name, said he was in the shop during the incident. 

"I think he was just joking. He was a good, clean kid," said the 17-year-old, who classified Bernhardt as a loner with few friends.  

"He was just misunderstood," he said. 

Fellow senior, Erik, 17, said he believes it was blown out of proportion. 

"He just said the wrong thing with the wrong person there at the wrong time," he said, adding that most students he's spoken to have similar sentiments.

"I've heard around school about it and it is a scary situation to be in," said Nicolette, 16.

While most students agreed that they don't think Bernhardt would have actually followed through with the threat, some believed he could have.

"He wasn't serious about it. I think he was just joking but I wouldn't put it past him [to do it]," said Dylan.

Students at the school said they noticed no extra security measures taken during school hours Wednesday.
