He's played in the White House and now he's played Unqua Elementary School–Dr. James McWhorter only plays the big venues.
McWhorter, a master cellist and educator, who once played in the United State's Marine Corp's "White House orchestra, visited the school to rehearse and give encouragement to fourth, fifth and sixth graders.
“This was an extremely unique opportunity, especially for students on the elementary grade levels,” said Unqua orchestra teacher Alison Pearl. “Dr. McWhorter conducted a ‘professional’ rehearsal, demonstrated to students how to accomplish different sounds and offered constructive criticism to each section of the orchestra.”
McWhorter has had a long history of conducting youth orchestras, and has spent many summers in residents at a touth music camp in Estes Park Colorado.
He is currently the orchestra director for Weber State University in Ogden, Utah.
