Weigh in with your Berner Pride

The school celebrates its 50th anniversary this weekend. What era do you belong to?

Alumni, teachers, administrators will be gathering this weekend to celebrate the of the Alfred G Berner School.

We call it that rather than , because it has served as a high school, a middle school and junior high school over the last half century.

For many in the community, Berner means the Berner Bisons with their red and white colors. In recent years, Berner fans  cheer for the Chiefs in their blue and gold.

So we want to celebrate Berner by pitting the two factions against each other.

Show your pride by taking our poll and letting us know if you're a Bison or a Chief.  And if you want to share your memories or your days at Berner or simply wish your old school a happy anniversary, please do so in comments.

It sounds a little childish, but If you attended Berner before the merge, you will always be a Bison. Berner H.S. was a great experience. I graduated in 1983 and loved all four years there. I think it is awesome that there is a 50th reunion and that for one day the halls are restored to it's old Rollin Red!

Berner High School Class of 77. Wish I could be there for the anniversary weekend, but it's hard being over 800 miles away. Hoping a good time is had by all and a hello to all my school buddies! Miss you! Kathie

The Berner/Massapequa rivalry lives on! True pain is walking into Berner and seeing Chiefs on the wall. The thought brings tears!
Valerie McKenna May 12, 2012 at 02:27 AM
Allright...here we go....THERE ARE TWO SONGS I remember...Let's Go Rollin Red...Let's Go Rollin Red...hey hey hey...(repeat) or Rollin Red (clap clap clap)..she'll never be dead...:) repeat)....I know...a little crazy, but we Bisons really liked our H.S. and there was such a bitter rivalry back then, must be hard for my fellow grads who still live there and their kids don the Blue and Gold...sigh

Oh Val, you have no idea! It was tough the first time my son came home with a paper saying Chiefs. But then again, I still think of my brother as the greatest goalie Berner ever saw! Maybe I should grow up?

I attended the anniversary celebration and had a great time re-connecting with faculty and students. I loved working at Berner from 1969-2002. It was a great school with a great faculty and students. We were like a family. I too, found it very hard to give up the red and white and the Bison name. I have a question about the event. Did anyone see any sports trophies or championship banners that the high school once displayed so proudly? I wonder what became of them?

Berner Bisons all the way! Prouder of the fight song "Cheer, cheer for 'ole Berner High. You bring the whiskey, I'll bring the rye". Cheered it loud and proud in front of admin, staff, faculty, & parents! What the heck? Still, loved most of my HS experience at Berner.
