HOUSE RAISING....ARE YOU INFORMED????

October 29, 2012. Our lives on the South Shore of Long Island has been forever changed. It is 6 months later, and the recovery/rebuilding process moves forward. Slowly. Battles withinsurance companies; Lack of information, funds are not coming forth with quickly. You love your community. You want to stay. You want "Home." You now decide to Raise your Home. YOU CANNOT AFFORD ANOTHER MISHAP OR DISASTER IN THE DECISION ON HOUSE RAISING. Across the South Shore of Long Island, there are cases of homes being raising and "dropping;" homes not raised to FEMA requirements, prices going up as the home is in the air; and most distastrous...monies being given, homes being raised and left by raiser due to problems with the soil. SOS Relief spoke with Guy Davis, Davis Movers.."before Sandy hit, there were 2 house raising companies on Long Island. After Sandy, there are over 14." SOS relief wants our communities home..safe and sound. You. Back in your home and life as you knew it prior to October 29th. Here is some info to consider when deciding to raise your home: 1. Cargo Insurance : Make certain your house raiser has this specialized insurance. A "regular" insurance policy is not the same! Your home is cargo and covered once it moves off the ground! Homes have been raised and have dropped; some smashed. Not having proper coverage could be your next home disaster! Since house raising is a specialized industry; this is a specialized insurance. Would you use a dentist for a cardiology concern? Trust your home to a house raiser that only specializes in house raising!! Make sure you are protected through Cargo Insurance! 2. Helical piles vs. Wood Piles. Our soil has changed!!! Helicals are more expensive; steel usually is. Helicals should be used because of the soil. The guarantee of safety, security and STRENGTH! Remember the amount of WEIGHT the pilings are holding!!! 3. Soil Test. Do you need one? YES! Our soil on the South Shore has changed; shifted. Lots of Sand. Your home needs to stay UP!! Again..stories are happening where the soil was not checked and problems are occurring! 4. Costs. Be sure to obtain costs for the ENTIRE process!! From architects to surveyors, to permits to foundation to house raising! Must be all inclusive! Prices have been given just for the house raise itself..not including foundation. ASK ABOUT ALL FEES!! The more information you have on this process..the sooner you will be in your home! YOU CANNOT AFFORD ANOTHER DISASTER. Email: sosrelief@gmail.com for further answers.
