Coast 12-year old Little League Shuts Out North Shore in Sectionals

Massapequa Coast have outscored Sectional opponents 21-0 through two games.

The Massapequa Coast 12-year old Williamsport team continued their solid start to Sectional Pool Play with an 8-0 win over North Shore, the District 36 champions, on Sunday morning at the North Shore Complex in Rocky Point, NY.

Just a day after defeating East Williston at Brady Park by a score of 13-0, Coast put themselves in solid position with an undefeated start. They have now outscored opponents 21-0 in Sectional play.

“Andy [Hyatt] was great and really had his stuff working, and now for our next game everyone is eligible to pitch except for him,” said Coast head coach Brian Schirmacher. “I keep stressing that pitching is the key, so for us, it works out well and it is very big.”

With ace Austin Torres pitching on Saturday, Coast called on Andy Hyatt to start the game on the mound. Hyatt used his off-speed pitching style to keep North Shore hitters off balance. In four innings, he did not allow any hits or runs.

In the second inning, Coast went up 2-0 after two passed balls to allow Jake Sabia and Dylan Nealis to score. In the next inning, they added two more runs after a bases loaded walk and an RBI single by Teddy Turano.

In the fourth inning, Justin Schirmacher hit a bases-clearing triple to the wall, growing the lead to 7-0. Catcher Albie Fanara gave the finishing touches to the offense with a solo home run in the fourth to cap the scoring at 8-0.

Turano, Schirmacher and Chris Keenan combined to pitch the final two innings in relief for Hyatt, giving up just two combined hits on the way to another shutout victory.

“Our next few games should be tough because they all have been playing very well so far,” added Schirmacher.

Coast will match up next against the District 35 champions, Bayport/Blue Point, on Tuesday, July 19 at 5:45 p.m. at Seaman’s Neck Park in Seaford. A day later, they will play against East Meadow, the District 32 champions, at 8:00 p.m. at Burns Park.
