Local Lacrosse Stars Honored

Nicky Polanco and Brian Spallina named to Major League Lacrosse all star team.

The "M" in MLL doesn't stand for Massapequa, it just feels that way. 

When Major League Lacrosse announced it's all star team this week,  two Massapequa residents were named to the squad. 

Nicky Pollanco and Brian Spallina, both members of the Long Island Lizards, will be defensemen on the all stars when they square off against the U.S. National team on July 8 in Boston.

Spallina has been playing in the league since 2004 and is now a three time all star. He was a first round pick of the the Philadelphia Barrage, and led that team to three championships.

The 2000 Hofstra graduate is a hard nosed player who is the league's all time leader in penalty minutes.

Polanco is a 2002 Hofstra grad, who was the fourth overall pick in the MLL draft that year. He has been named to the past seven all star teams and has five career goals and three career assists.

The pair has helped the Lizards allow the fewest goals in the league this season.
