Massapequa Football Shows Impressive Offense in 50-6 Win Over Port Washington

The Chiefs put up 50 points on the road against the Vikings.

Massapequa put up score after score on the road at Port Washington on Thursday afternoon, winning by an impressive 50-6 margin. With a tie for a season-high in points, as well as season-low given up, the Chiefs advance to 3-2 in Conference I, while the Vikings are still in search of their first win at 0-5.

Massapequa quarterback Matt Pagano got the team going in the first by using his feet. Touchdown runs of 38 and three yards put his team ahead 15-0. Just before the quarter buzzer, Pagano went deep to a wide-open Dan Muller down the sideline for a 45-yard pass and score.

In the second, Rob Flood flanked out towards the sideline, where Pagano found him for a 16-yard score. With the Viking side struggling to move the ball, miscues came hand in hand. Muller scooped up a fumble on the ensuing kickoff and took it 31 yards for his second touchdown and a 36-0 lead.

Jack Korber picked up a 45-yard touchdown run on his lone attempt of the day. T.J. South, who led the team on the ground with 105 yards, followed with scoring a touchdown from seven yards out. Just before the half, Port Washington’s Shawn Mckoy took a kickoff 90 yards for the Vikings’ only score.

The teams played to a scoreless second half as the Chiefs defense took over, led by Jon Dillon with two sacks and 12 tackles as well as Anthony Turano with six more tackles.

Heroes: There were many stars on the Chiefs sideline on the day, whether it was Pagano behind center, South in the backfield, the defense shutting the Vikings down or Muller coming up big on all ends. Muller picked up his second and third touchdowns on the year in the win.

“We really came out to play and it was a great team win,” said Muller. “If we keep on this this track, its only on to bigger and better things.”

Turning Point: The Chiefs sent their message out early with the two quick scores from Pagano in the first quarter.

Quotable: “Offensively, everything was clicking and the kids played to their potential. We have a lot of great athletes here and they came out and they showed it,” said Chiefs head coach Kevin Shippos. “I feel that we’re right in the middle of everything. The kids just have to keep working hard.”

Port Washington was unavailable for comment.

Bottom Line: While Port Washington has struggled mightily this season, the win vaults Massapequa back into the hunt for the playoffs and potentially beyond. The 50 points is the second time the Chiefs put up that mark this season.

Key Stat: The second touchdown by Muller was the first defensive touchdown produced by the Chiefs this season.
