Massapequa Football Wins 50-18 Over Valley Stream Central

Chiefs get first win of the year.

Massapequa overcame a sluggish first half to win their first game of the year and put new head coach Kevin Shippos in the win column with a 50-18 victory over Valley Stream Central High School.

The Chiefs had a turnover-plagued first two quarters, but the defense kept them in front as Nick Capuana came up with a big interception after Massapequa lost a fumble.

Massapequa scored five touchdowns in the second half to put the game out of reach. In addition to losing the game, Valley Stream also lost star running back Laton Butler to an injury.

Quotable: "It feels good getting our first victory, hopefully it's the first of many this year," said Shippos. "We have a tough opponent in Baldwin next week, and I know since I am an alumni of  the program, they come to play. Hopefully we can ride this victory into next week, and every week there after."

Bottom Line: After suffering a loss in the opener, it's always a good thing to get in the win column as quickly as possible. The Chiefs need to carry the momentum into Homecoming week.
