McCormack Pushes Massapequa to Summer League Title

itcher flirts with no-hitter in 8-0 win.

Massapequa's Ryan McCormack said he was "a little nervous" in the
first couple innings of Friday night's Nassau County Coaches
Association Summer League title game at Hofstra.

Before long it was Syosset's batters who were nervous, trying to

figure out how they were going to get a hit off this guy.

McCormack had a no-hitter going for 5 1/3 innings and got all the run
support he needed as Massapequa took the title with an 8-0 victory.

"Today [the no-hitter] was in the back of my mind, but I just wanted
to stay focused and make my pitches the way I wanted to," McCormack
said.

McCormack, who will be a junior, topped out at 86 mph early in the
game but kept Syosset stymied in the low-80s throughout. Michael Moore
finally broke through for Syosset in the top of the sixth, beating out
a soft bouncer to third.

"I was a little frustrated," McCormack said of the hit, "but I knew I
needed to stay focused."

He did just that, snagging a comebacker and starting a 1-6-3 double
play to end the top of the sixth.

McCormack also helped himself, getting an RBI single during a four-run
bottom of the third that put Massapequa up 6-0. Billy Schlich and
Brian Radigan delivered run-scoring hits in the bottom of the first to
start the scoring.

McCormack was pulled after the sixth and finished with seven
strikeouts and three walks to go with the lone hit.
