Beaches, Pools Open Saturday for Summer

Find out the hours, permits, and parking situations of your favorite summer spots.

Summer officially hits the Town of Oyster Bay on Saturday when all beaches and pools officially open for business. Here are the basics TOBAY's beach and parks divisions say you need to know before you dive into the water.

Beaches

All beaches open in the early morning and close at 6 p.m. For those who haven't picked up their seasonal beach sticker yet, you can grab one at any TOBAY beach beginning on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Click on your favorite beach for specifics on parking, picnicking, and more.

Head to the Town of Oyster Bay beach division page under Town Departments for membership and sticker prices.

Pools

TOBAY community pools are located within the following town parks:

Bethpage Community Park, Bethpage
, Massapequa
, Plainview
, Woodbury

Hours at these parks are as follows, according to the town:

June 23 - June 29, 2012 from Noon to 6pm         
June 30 - August 26, 2012 from 10:30am to 9pm
August 27 - Sept. 2, 2012 from Noon to 8pm
September 3, 2012 (Labor Day) from 10:30am to 6pm
After Labor Day, pools close for the season

In addition, Tappen Pool in Glenwood Landing has the following hours:

June 23rd through July 1st:
Monday through Saturday - 9am to dusk
Sunday - 11am to dusk

July 2nd through July 29th:
Monday through Friday - Noon to dusk
Saturday - 9am to dusk
Sunday - 11am to dusk

July 30th through September 2nd:
Monday through Saturday - 9am to dusk
Sunday - 11am to dusk
Labor Day (Monday, September 3, 2012) - 9am to 6pm

After Labor Day, pool closes for the season.

No one has been jailed for the corporate malfeasance that resulted in the financial crash of '08, in spite of the rules that were ignored or broken. Too big to fail is the order of the day. Meanwhile, petty frauds committed by poor and middle class are prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Two Americas. The rule of law, unevenly applied, whether by race, or class, or economic station will result in the unraveling of society. We may well be seeing the beginnings of that now, as we've entered a new gilded age, where new robber barons are allowed to run roughshod over the lower classes. The very ideals of America are at stake, and we are letting them slide away.

The canopies will be primarily over the staircases, elevator, waiting room, and one other small section on the middle section of the platform between the elevator and east escalator.
