Massapequa Resident Rocks For Autism

Father of two autistic children helps set up annual fundraiser.

Five years ago, Massapequa resident Jim Cronin wanted to do something more to support his two children with autism.

The fifth annual Rockin' for Autism fundraiser for the Smithtown-based Developmental Disabilities Institute (DDI) was held at Mulcahy's Pub & Concert Hall Sunday afternoon featuring performances by Long Island rock bands One Step Ahead, Bon Journey, Time Warp and Soul and Dr. G's All Star Veteran Band.

Cronin, along with fellow DDI board members, founded Rockin' for Autism in 2007 and have fought to turn into an annual concert to benefit both children and adults with autism and other developmental disabilities.

"These are some of the best musicians on Long Island and they're here donating their time for our children," Cronin said.

DDI was founded in 1961 with hopes to cater to the special needs of children with developmental disabilities. Today, DDI offers educational, residential day habilitation and vocational services for patients of all ages.
