UFC legend Matt Serra helped host a fundraiser at Wantagh’s this past Saturday to support a young boy in his battle with liver cancer.
The event was aimed at raising funds for 2-year old Bobby Genovese of North Massapequa, who has been diagnosed with stage three liver cancer. Serra, a Massapequa resident and East Meadow native, is a UFC welterweight champion who won season four of the Spike TV show The Ultimate Fighter and showed his support for the Genovese family in their quest to get a new liver for Bobby.
The fundraiser featured music by the Tone Freaks, food and an open bar. T-shirts, polo’s and tank tops with the words “Little Bobby’s Battle” were sold throughout the event. There was also a live auction with prizes such as Yankee tickets, autographed sports memorabilia, a variety of electronics and vacations.
“They were hoping for the best and they got the best” said Tracy Kelly, a friend of the Genovese family on the success of the fundraiser.
Theresa Caputo, the Long Island psychic from the TLC show Long Island Medium also made an appearance at the fundraiser. Caputo donated a TLC basket and an hour private psychic reading to the auction with the prize going for $2,500.
“The event was incredible and I couldn’t ask for anything more,” said Bobby’s uncle Matt Genovese.
