A Big Vote and a Big Race This Week

Here's what's happening this week in and around Massapequa.

The fight over a proposed Town of Oyster Bay land sale comes to a head this week as summer winds down with an endurance event in Oyster Bay. Each Monday we'll tell you about the can't-miss events, important public meetings and whatever else is going around town. Here's what's happening in and around Massapequa this week:

Town Vote: On Tuesday voters in the Town of Oyster Bay will go to the polls to decide if a proposed  sale of a Department of Public works complex will go through. Town officials. It may also  decide an 18 year-old  battle between two mall developers and their supporters over the former Cerro Wire site. The Taubman Company, a national developer of high-end shopping malls, has been trying to build a mall on land adjacent to the land for sale. Simon Properties, the land's proposed buyer is also a mall developer. The Town has opposed the mall from the beginning.

Triathalon: It's a test of endurance and one of the biggest events on the calendar in the Town of Oyster Bay. The annual triathlon goes off Saturday at Theodore Roosevelt Park in Oyster Bay. It will consist of a half mile swim, 15k bike race and 5k run. 

Classic Cars: This will be the final week of the town's Classic Car Cruise Nights. You can check it out Friday at the Massapequa LIRR station at 7 p.m.

Stock Market:  The Bar Harbour Library will host a program on making money in the stock market, Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Property Tax: Bar Harbour  will also host a workshop on Property Tax Exemptions from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Friday.
