Ahhh some national news involving our fair city, loved how the kids were laughing in the backgroundRead More of all the news reports. Perhaps protocols for this type of situation need to be reassessed, where so many officers needed for this? I doubt the kid actually gave out his address over Xbox Live, maybe one of the local kids or brother made the prank call. These kids were loving it. What easy overtime for these officers, maybe one of them made the anonymous internet call.

Quick question, where was The Commish interviewed? Because it wasn't in front of the "crimeRead More scene".

Not sure where the interview took place but the somber looking , tall guy behind Tagney is MichaelRead More Robinson our Deputy City Manager. Guess he was keeping an eye on our Police Comm.

All the vermin that commit these crimes know that the Nassau county cops are the hide and go seekRead More police force...
Massa April 23, 2014 at 11:39 am
It makes me sick that these clowns steal and vandalize property that we all work hard for, but itRead More pisses me off even more that I don't see anything being done about it. I know we are all getting sick and tired of living in a county that has the highest taxes in the Country.I am getting real sick of getting crap service for our tax dollars. Nassau PD needs to get some real supervisors and get their police officers on the ball. First thing is real roll calls at police precincts. second is no more free meals where guys take advantage of businesses, I see these guys all the time at these places and don't pay a cent, sounds like corruption to me. Third is no more police booths or hanging out in firehouses.... WTF is that all about? Nassau firehouses have bars in them. The three cars hanging out bullshitting for hours has to stop.thugs are committing crimes and nothing is getting done. As far as dangerous precincts in Nassau, I will say the 1st and 5th are busy and have the most danger. Those officers should get the respect they deserve. It is sad that the other precincts don't give the community that they serve the respect they deserve.Walking in the door and making 150.000 dollars a year without overtime is pretty nice for the area's they work.I am sure city guys would take the city salary to work with less danger in nice areas everyday.

The following comments are not meant to be construed as being an advocate for teen /under agedRead More drinking, just a personal observation: 1-When I was in HS in the 70s kids aged 13-18 were drinking in their own homes or in parks while parents were out for the eve or weekend. Nothing has changed much there, IMO. 2- my mid + 20 something kids have told me stories of parties in HS where the parents were not only home, but would buy beer & hard liquor (multiple flavored vodkas) for huge parties for their kids & their friends. They would sometimes party with the under aged teens as well. ( not one of my kids were "allowed" to drink before 21 yrs old. Nor in my home, nor at family functions. I wasn't with them every moment of the day to enforce this.) This is nothing new & if you think it is you are delusional. There are good & bad parenting styles. 3- I was once shown Facebook pictures of a 16 yr old local boy loading a few cases of beer onto a party bus for Jr Prom, using a dolly, so tell me that the bus driver was unaware. Perhaps stiffer penalties are needed for the bus drivers, to include the bus company and check ladies purses for drugs & booze smuggled in. Again, some parents are real a------- when it comes to this but some of us are responsible and teach their kids hoping & praying that they do the right thing despite peer pressure. 4- all of my children use taxi service, designated drivers or the train when they wish to drink legally (mid to upper 20s). They were taught at an early age never to get into a car with anyone they felt may have been impaired and so far have called me on 2 occasions to come get them at 2 or 3 am when this was so. God willing they will stay safe. Parents are the first line of defense, but stiffer laws are needed for bus companies & idiot parents who think it's a right of passage. Talk to your local elected officials!

I want to root for the police, I really do; but when some a-hole flies by me, nearly hits my car orRead More is tailgating and I pass a cop who does NOTHING... It really diminishes my faith. They [not all but some] pull people over for bullshit and pull the power trip on innocent individuals who truly made mistakes or non-threatening/harmful offenses. But where the hell are they when the real risks are on the road??? How about they keep their patrols going for the crappy drivers EVERYDAY, and not just some appointed safety weeks.
knee jerk April 23, 2014 at 04:56 pm
Instead of calling it "Speed Week" or some other catchy tune, why not just call it what itRead More really is "Power Trip Week".

Really, February 7th..... Are you kidding me? It took Nassau county since that time to post aRead More picture of this guy. Wow,maybe they should go back to police work 101. I am sure if they started patrolling a little more on the side streets instead of having their feet up at the local firehouses, then maybe some real police work will get done. Getting real tired of cars getting broken into by these junkies and no results getting done by Nassau's fighting 7th. If they did some patrol and stopped some if these clowns out at crazy hours, them maybe they could start questioning these guys. WTF are we paying them for? Crime is rising and they can't handle the basic police work...., very sad. Send them to a busy Nassau Pct like the 1st or 5th.

I wonder when they plan on putting the CIA on trial for conspiracy to distribute these drugs...orRead More when they plan on going after the big pharma companies that are the main buyers of the product they're trying to get rid of. With everything the way it is, it is hard to believe that big government and big pharma is not colluding to produce huge profits at the expense of the addicts they cultivate. Look up zohydro...a drug ten times stronger than oxycontin. We have enough problems with oxy, why would you multiply that problem by ten?

Unfortunately for a first time offender this is the average punishment. I would like to see a firingRead More squad myself. In Minnesota they have what is called Whiskey plates. If you get convicted of DWI you are issued new plates that start with the letter W followed by numbers. PE. W35478. So everyone knows your a drunk. So if the firing squad is to much maybe NY could do this
Meri April 16, 2014 at 07:10 am
First offence should be jail time. Maybe that would stop some repeat offenders. Their whole familyRead More is messed up. Ugh.

Stop with stupid marijuana arrests. Alcohol kills 88,000 every year, 11,00 of them mowed down byRead More drunk drivers. Tobacco killed 40,000. Marijuana killed ZERO. That's right ZERO. What the hell do they waste money arresting pot users who cause no social problems like alcohol does. Armed robberies, murders, wife beating, child abuse are all fueled by alcohol.
LB TAXPAYA April 18, 2014 at 03:23 pm
Good Point "Lear Jet". How do you feel about the NYPD stopping the snooping of Muslims?Read More I have mixed feelings. I definitely think they can foil terror plots by snooping, but it does kind of infringe on their privacy. It's a catch 22.
Bob West April 19, 2014 at 07:52 am
@Learjet- I appreciate your resistance to be "pigeonholed" and especially your commentRead More above about wasteful enforcing of pot laws with limited resources. Not to be picky, but you might want to clarify your above post- looks like maybe a typo. "National security and terrorism intelligence is something that should very loosely restricted." I think I know what you mean to say, but others might not. Thanks for your often "think out of the box." comments.

Ohhhh sorry mercado-silva was the scumbag with the gun. Well he committed a crime with a gun heRead More should be put to death!!! You want gun control this is the answer. There is no deterrent for committing a crime with a gun, you only get 20 years for murder, here lies the problem. Ps Eric holder your brace idea has to be the stupidest thing I ever heard criminals don't obey the law what a jerk apparently you never owned a gun but you want to make laws about guns???????

Ok, if you saw this I can understand your point more. I was a police officer for over 20 years.Read More Their are some bad police officers, but over 90% are good hard working fair people. Massa April 12, 2014 at 07:17 pm
I just want to let you know that most of the B/S and the crap that is reported by the media usRead More wrong. No one likes dislikes bad cops more than good cops.It ruins the reputation if all the good ones who do the right thing everyday. On the other hand, their are many people who don't like police officers and no matter what police officers do, it is never good enough for these people. Most of those people had a bad experience because they were locked up at one time by a police officer.

THE INCIDENTS OF SEXUAL ABUSE AND INAPPROPRIATE CONTACT WITH STUDENTS IN SCHOOLS ON LONG ISLAND ISRead More RISING. IN THE PAST FIFTEEN MONTHS THERE HAVE BEEN ELEVEN ARRESTS OF TEACHERS ACCUSED OF SEXUAL ABUSE. HOW MANY OTHER INCIDENTS HAVE OCCURRED, THAT CHILDREN ARE AFRAID TO REPORT? MOST PARENTS TEACH THEIR CHILDREN TO BE WARY OF STRANGERS. UNFORTUNATELY MOST INCIDENTS OF ABUSE ARE PERPETRATED BY SOMEONE THE CHILD KNOWS. THEY SHOULDN'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT NOT BEING SAFE IN THEIR SCHOOL ENVIRONMENT.

To Christopher Wendt, Where did "Jack" say anything salacious in his comments on theRead More Hofstra student's death? ALL avenues of the cause of death should be explored...A young man, not yet in his prime, is a most unusual death. As far as I'm concerned, suicide is a criminal act as is homicide. It is still killing someone, even if self inflicted.....By the way, salacious is the wrong word to use in your point of view. I see nothing "salty" in his comments.

HEY K J, YOU CAN BE AS LIBERAL AND FREE THINKING AS YOU WANT TO BE IN YOUR PERSONAL LIFE. IN ARead More PREVIOUS COMMENT YOU WERE ALL FOR GETTING DRUNKS OFF THE ROAD AND SETTING UP DWI CHECKPOINTS, WHICH YOU FEEL FREE TO EXCLUDE YOURSELF FROM. YOU ARE ALREADY LIVING IN ONE OF THE LEAST OPPRESSIVE SOCIETIES IN THE WORLD, SO IT'S NOT THAT DIFFICULT TO ABIDE BY THE LAWS. THERE HAS TO BE SOME PREVIOUS PERSONAL HISTORY, THAT MAKES YOU SO VINDICTIVE. I THINK YOUR LIGHTS ARE FLICKERING LIKE RPM'S. ENOUGH SAID ON THIS TOPIC.
knee jerk April 2, 2014 at 09:54 am
Hey Arch, only if those DWI checkpoints include ALL drunks, including off duty cops and MADDRead More members. My lights may well be flickering, but yours went off a long time ago. I'VE ALSO WASTED ENOUGH TIME ON YOU-YOU'LL NEVER GET IT.
