Accuser says she's afraid of former officer.

Tara Obenauer, said that Mike Tedesco threatened her after learning of a police investigation of the case, WABC-TV reported. "I'm scared and upset and I would like to get this behind me for myself and for my children," she said. Obenauer said earlier this month that she carried on an affair for months with Tedesco inside her home, when he should have been patrolling. A suspicious neighbor blew the whistle on Tedesco and alerted cops who discovered through a GPS check that he'd been at the home at least 57 times. Tedesco, filed retirement papers and …

Venditto vows to examine Oyster Bay policies going forward in wake of ex-Yankee's arrest on child molestation charges.
Oyster Bay Supervisor John Venditto expressed "shock" at the arrest of former Yankee and town employee Rusty Torres, saying he found the sexual abuse charges "deeply disturbing," and vowed to address town hiring policies as the case goes forward. In an exclusive interview with Patch following Tuesday morning's Town Board meeting, Venditto said an extensive background check was done on Torres before he was hired in 2002 by both the Nassau County Civil Service Commission as well as in a separate investigation by the Town of Oyster Bay. Going forward, Venditto said the town will examine its hiring practices and make changes if necessary. "As we learn more (about the case) if there are lessons to be learned from this and things to be done in …

Oyster Bay leaders have not answered key questions about ex-Yankee they've employed for 10 years.
The Oyster Bay Town Board meets in public Tuesday for the first time since Rusty Torres, the town's longtime employee, was charged with molesting an 8-year-old child. Among the lingering questions in the Torres scandal is whether the town did a background check on Torres before hiring him in 2002 as the town's baseball coach. Torres is a convicted felon who served five years probation for a cocaine-related conviction dating to 1985. The town has also not clarified its hiring practices regarding other potential convicted felons. In his decade-long role as the town's baseball coach, Torres was in contact with thousands of children, town and police officials said. The former major leaguer served as a hitting coach for numerous youth baseball …

Felony complaint revealed; police reach out to leaders of athletic leagues and school districts where he coached.
Rusty Torres, accused of molesting an 8-year-old girl in Plainview on two occasions, spent 10 years working in his position for the Town of Oyster Bay and coached thousands of Long Island children, town officials and police said. That chilling fact has Nassau County Police fearful that other children may have been victimized by the former New York Yankee, whose indictment contains specific and disturbing details of the accusations leveled against him. The so-called "felony complaint" describes explicit details of Torres exposing himself to the child and having her touch him inappropriately. (See attached PDF file; Warning: graphic content.) In addition, Torres was hired by the town in May, 2002, despite having served five years probation …
Former Yankee Rusty Torres remains behind closed doors as North Massapequa neighbors defend him.
On a beautiful spring afternoon that would have been idyllic for playing baseball, former Yankee Rusty Torres was holed up behind closed doors Wednesday. Torres, 63, who faces allegations of sexual abuse involving an 8-year-old girl, would not answer the door of his North Massapequa home when a Patch reporter came to ask for comment. But he came to the window and said, "I'm sorry, I have nothing to say at this time." The ex-Yankee, who played parts of two seasons in the Bronx in the 1970s, was released on bail, according to the Nassau County District Attorney's office. He is charged with two counts of first degree sexual abuse. According to court papers, Torres abused the victim on two occasions. On April 30, he allegedly rubbed against …

Ex-Yankee and full-time Town of Oyster Bay employee faces four counts of child molestation.
Ex-Yankee Rosendo "Rusty" Torres made incriminating statements to police that led to felony charges of child molestation, court documents and police said. The former major leaguer and current youth baseball coach employed full time by the Town of Oyster Bay said he was sorry for incidents and stopped himself before further damage was done to his victim, court documents show. Torres was charged Tuesday in connection with two separate incidents of sex abuse involving an 8-year old girl that occurred in Plainview. He plead not guilty on Wednesday to four felony counts of first-degree sexual abuse. Bail was set at $50,000. The arrest of Rusty Torres called attention to the salary he received from the Town of Oyster Bay. Was he paid too much?
The arrest of former Yankee Rusty Torres has sent shock waves through the area. The North Massapequa resident is accused of two incidents of sex abuse involving an 8-year-old girl. Torres is employed by the Town of Oyster Bay as a youth baseball coach and was suspended without pay Tuesday by Town Supervisor John Venditto. It was a full time position that paid more than $83,000 according to officials, and that salary has raised a few eyebrows among some observers. While in no way minimizing the seriousness of the allegations that are involved in Torres' arrest, we want to know what you think about the town's decision to hire a coach at that salary. We're not asking you to decide Torres' innocence or guilt. That should be done in a court of …
