'Missing Swimmer' Raymond Roth Sentenced
Roth to spend up to seven years behind bars for faking death in 2012.
A Massapequa man who faked his own death to collect insurance money was ordered to spend up to seven years in prison, according to the Nassau County District Attorney's Office.
Raymond Roth, 49, was sentenced Thursday to spend between two and seven years in jail for concocting a plan to collect life insurance money by pretending to drown in Jones Beach.
The sentencing also included another conviction involving Roth, who had pretended to be a police officer, followed a woman and demanded that she get in his van or he would arrest her.

“Due to the criminal acts committed by this defendant, first responders were diverted from their life-saving duties to be unwilling players in a scheme to defraud an insurance company of thousands of dollars,” NCDA Kathleen Rice said.
“Then on the same day he pleaded guilty to this crime, he went back out into the community and threatened a woman with arrest, followed her, and attempted to break into her place of business. With today’s sentence, Mr. Roth will finally be held accountable for his utter disregard for the law and public safety.”

The sentencing comes less than two months after that of his son, Jonathan Roth, 24, who was ordered to spend a year in prison for collaborating with his father and making a 911 call reporting his father's disappearance.
