Victim Foils Robbery in North Massapequa

Armed man scared off by alarm.

 The intended victim of a gunpoint robbery in the parking lot of a North Massapequa bank was able to scare away the thief, police said.

A 46-year-old  man was exiting his car outside the Chase Bank at 1090 Hicksville Road when he spotted the robber who was armed with a handgun.

He got back inside his car, and using a keyless remote, set off the panic alarm. It caused the gunman to run away.

He was last seen headed towards North Queens Avenue.

The would-be robber is described as a male Hispanic, about five-foot nine with a thin build. He was wearing a black ski mask, white shirt, black pants and a black baseball cap with a staight brim. He was carrying a black handgun.
