Chiefs Win County Baseball Title

Massapequa holds onto 7-5 win over MacArthur.

The Massapequa Chiefs had some anxious moments Wednesday afternoon but gritted out a victory that gave them the Class AA Nassau County title.

The Chiefs completed a two game sweep over MacArthur with the 7-5 win.

Massapequa got off to a strong start as they got off to a 5-0 lead after two innings, but MacArthur mounted a five-run 5th inning.

But the Chiefs answered back with offense and clutch pitching.  Nick Comito led off the bottom of the fifth with a single and went all the way to third on a wild pickoff throw. Nick Fanneron drove him home with a sacrifice fly.

The Chiefs added an insurance run and sealed the win as Bobby Honeyman pitched two scoreless innings to nail down the county clinching save.

"It's good for the kids, they worked hard and it proves that hard work  pays off," said Coach Tom Sheedy who led the Chiefs to their first county title since 2009.

Massapequa will play the Suffolk County champion Tuesday for the Long Island Title.
